A Journey with Children is a visual journey through the lives of street children in the Philippines, as seen through the eyes of UNICEF photographer Giacomo Pirozzi. A joint undertaking by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and UNICEF Philippines, it reveals the challenges being faced by street children and their families – from the bustling cities in Luzon, to communities in Mindanao affected by armed conflict. The book tells the story of 45 children who are struggling to uphold their rights to survive, develop and be protected from harm. It depicts children in a hopeful and positive light, able to overcome difficulties despite their experiences.
The book also urges government, organizations, communities, companies and private individuals to band together to ensure that no child ends up in the street.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development ensures that all 45 children profiled in this book will be given appropriate assistance and follow-up.
In this book you will see the harsh realities faced by children who call the streets their home. You’ll see that despite all the hardships, there are positive stories that will energize us to make lasting changes happen for these children.
